There’s a lot that Kate and I have in common – a curvy figure, a liking for pubs and the small matter of two children. Now I can add filming to that roll call.
During a sultry hot week in July, both Kate and I were filming our new features. Yours truly, a television advert for Care.com, and Kate her newest feature film. While Kate may have had no problem with this state of affairs, — she is, after all, the actress who famously said “There’s not an awful lot that embarrasses me. I’m the kind of actress that absolutely believes in exposing myself.”
I have to admit to a few nerves on the morning that I was to be told “Roll camera, action Sigrid.” What would my husband and children think? And how were they getting on without me for the day? Would the director laugh me off the set and call Care.com central to demand, “Where did you get this woman?!”.
As we have just launched our service here, we wanted to make sure that enough families and carers knew how many great jobs and great child carers we have in our community. Television advertising is a fantastic medium to get that message across and make sure that carers and families know where to come to connect, find care jobs and hire all types of carers including nannies, babysitters and au pairs. Once the team told me that I would only be filmed from the waist up – so no concerns about crash dieting! – and that they would not use it if it was rubbish, I agreed.
As for my experience of filming – well, I had a blast. Not only was there someone professional in the room to do my hair and make-up, but there was also a lighting specialist who dealt with most of my wrinkles with his magic! I didn’t get thrown off the set and I had the great opportunity to watch some of the adorable children deliver their lines.
