How you can help families during the festive season and make some extra holiday cash.

Christmas is considered by many to be the most magical time of the year but, for lots of families, it can be the most stressful too. This is where you come in. Offering your services as a caregiver or housekeeper can help ease the burden on parents and provide you with an extra source of income for the holiday season.

Looking for job opportunities? Find jobs in your area now.

Here are 6 services that you can offer this Christmas season:

1. Decorations

Pulling the decorations out from storage, untangling fairy lights, sorting through baubles, dragging in the Christmas tree: these are all necessary tasks before the more enjoyable act of decorating the house can begin. Offer your services to help with, or take over, this task. Dust off decorations and have them in prime condition so the family can enjoy the Christmas tradition of decorating without the hassle. Or, if the parents are really busy, you can offer to decorate the house for them and get the kids to help!

2. Shopping

Whether it is shopping for presents or the big Christmas grocery shop, get a list from your employer and do the shop for them. This will be a huge help and save them lots of time and stress. Go through the list with your employer beforehand to make sure you know their brand preferences and that everything on the list is clear.

3. Taking the kids out

The Christmas season provides so many opportunities for fun days out. Whether it is visiting Santa, going ice-skating, or hitting up a Christmas market, there are no shortage of activities for children. With the hectic holidays approaching, not all parents will have time to bring their kids to these activities. This is where you come in. Offer your childminding services and take the children to the various stops on their holiday wish list.

4. Cooking

If you are comfortable offering cooking services, this can be a great way to help out families over the holiday period. Whether it is making the stuffing and cranberry sauce, prepping the turkey or baking mince pies with the kids, having someone to take care of the Christmas cooking can be a big relief for families.

5. Preparing for visitors

If the family you work for is hosting visitors over the holidays, helping them get ready is a very useful service you can offer. Services you can suggest include washing and ironing the sheets for the guest bed, leaving towels and linens ready, clearing wardrobe space and stocking the room with products they might need. Offer to keep the room maintained for the duration of the guests’ stay.

6. Gift wrapping

Wrapping presents is another time-consuming aspect of the holiday season. As well as doing the shopping, this is a great service you can offer to the parents. Not an expert on wrapping presents? Don’t worry, we have a guide on how to wrap presents this festive season.
