I absolutely LOVE all things fall. I love scarves, colder temperatures, warm sweaters and all things PUMPKIN. One of my favorite things about pumpkin, besides how amazing it tastes, is how versatile it is. There are thousands of desserts and recipes you can make with pumpkin. Pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice lattes, the list can go on and on. Why not pumpkin playdough???
My husband has been out of town, so I’ve been trying to think up new activities for Madison to try each afternoon. Normally, when Matt gets home we have family time, but since he’s been away I’ve tried to make sure we stay busy. I love trying new sensory activities, because while she’s having fun Madison is also learning and discovering new things. I’ve wanted to introduce her to playdough, but the idea of her sticking store bought playdough in her mouth made me nervous. She’s been teething for the past few weeks, so everything she comes in contact with goes into her mouth first. So I figured I’d make my own that is edible!
The recipe is super easy. All you need is cornstarch, pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice. I used cornstarch as a base, added canned pumpkin puree and mixed well. You may need to continue to add cornstarch to reach your desired consistency. Add pumpkin spice to add a little flavor for your little one! This will also make the playdough smell AMAZING. Once you’ve reached your desired consistency your little one can begin playing with their edible playdough!
The recipe I used is both gluten-free and edible! Since I used pumpkin and pumpkin spice, it smells like fall. But you can easily switch this recipe up and use any puree you prefer or have on hand. This recipe will also last about 4-5 days in the refrigerator as well. If it gets dry, just add a little water and mix.
Madison loved getting to play with playdough. She even tried to eat some, but I didn’t mind since it was edible!
