In addition to being a famous model, chef and TV hostess, Chrissy Teigen is known for shutting down hateful comments people make online without thinking twice. It’s one of the reasons her fans adore her – she’ll call someone out for making inappropriate comments, which is exactly what happened earlier this week.
Teigen and husband John Legend had their first child together last April. Their baby girl Luna is beyond adorable. Before Luna, the couple struggled with infertility issues, which are fairly common in the United States. About 6.1 million women in America have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Teigen has been pretty open about her struggles online and in media interviews.
“The big question was why this wasn’t working for us when I was young and he was healthy,” Teigen tells Self magazine. “I thought, People get pregnant by accident all the time! How does this happen?” Eventually, the couple decided to try in vitro fertilization, which can be an incredibly stressful process that involves lots of doctor visits, pills and shots. “Emotionally, it could be really hard,” she says. “When you have these high-highs and low-lows, and you’re, like, cuckoo pants.”
The famous mom always talked openly about her struggles, though, which resonated with women around the world who’ve had their own bumpy roads to motherhood. “Once we talked about IVF, it was like I heard everything. Some people who are close to us had done it, like, seven to ten times,” Teigen explains.
Earlier this week the pair were at the SAG Awards, where she told a reporter they’d have “a boy for sure” next. Sadly, the internet wasted no time in sending her harassing messages.
Teigen isn’t one to shy away from controversy, though, and put one commenter in her place right away. Her epic response is a good reminder that everyone’s path to parenthood is different.
