Let’s take a look at a cat’s paw. At first glance the paw might appear straightforward, with a bone structure that follows a pattern not dissimilar to that of our own, but a closer examination of the first digit reveals something unique about the anatomy of the feline paw: the claw. This tiny chitin based nail is imbedded straight into the bone of each “finger” you cat has, requiring it to be severed and completely removed along with the first bone of each digit in order to remove the claw. In short, the claw removal process is comparable to removing the first bone off of every finger in a human.
