Dinner and a movie is always a solid date night. But what if you’re in a time crunch and the babysitter can’t stay long enough for both activities? (Find one who can! The Alamo Drafthouse is local favorite for those looking for an upscale dining experience. The Littleton location in Aspen Grove is conveniently located by the Mineral Light Rail station stop or accessible via the Mary Carter Greenway Bike Trail if you’re looking to leave the car at home. Both locations have a full bar with tons of beer, wine and cocktail selections!
The new Sloan’s Lake location in Denver just opened in May and is the new movie hotspot for those near Downtown Denver. At Alamo Drafthouse, plush reserved seating awaits you as full-service wait staff take your food and drink orders. Enjoy a wide variety of food offerings, like burgers and sandwiches, pizza with all the toppings you can imagine, a full entree or a light salad. You can also find the typical snack offerings, like popcorn and pretzels, with a few unique ones like fried pickles and roasted garlic hummus dip. Finish off your meal with a fresh-baked cookie or a shake at the Sloan’s Lake location.
Ticket prices are right at regular theater standards at $11.25 for regular showing and $14.25 for 3D after 6 p.m. at the Littleton location and $12.50 and $16, respectively, at Sloan’s Lake. Seniors, kids, and students or military can get discounted tickets, but if you’re looking for an even better deal, have a day date and get your movie tickets for about $6 before noon or $9 for a matinee. As an added bonus, they serve brunch for the early birds! Moviegoers must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by a parent, and infants are allowed in for free during “Alamo for All” screenings before 2:05 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Located in Southlands Town Center, this AMC dine-in theater features fare from its fast-casual restaurant Red Kitchen, with boozy delights from its MacGuffins bar — named as an homage to Alfred Hitchcock. Relax in your recliner as you order your food and drink of choice from an iPad and sit back as it is delivered right to your seat. Selections include typical offerings like burgers and chicken tenders, but there are also upscale options like a meat and cheese board ($16.49), sushi ($10) and poutine fries ($10.29). A call button alerts the waitstaff to visit you if you need anything. You can also order at the stand on the way into the theater and have it delivered to your seat.
AMC Dine-In tickets include reserved seating and will run you $10.99 for adults and $7.99 for kids for evening showings. If you’re looking for a better deal, showings before noon are $5.99 for adults and the dine-in menu is still available!

This dine-in theater located in the Seven Hills Shopping Center is known for their movies and margaritas, mixed with a full menu. Start off with some wings, create your own pizza, nosh on a South of the Border Burger ($13.50), or try one of the Tavern specialities like the Game Day Platter ($16.95) before trying out their House Made Churro ($6.95). Guests can order from their seats with the press of a button, calling a server, but it’s recommended to allow 45 minutes to order and eat before the lights dim for the movie.
If you’re not feeling like a full meal, Movie Tavern also has the normal candy and popcorn concession stand favorites. Is breakfast and a movie your thing? Breakfast & A Flick features a breakfast menu complete with mimosas and Bloody Marys for movies before 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Tickets are $11.47 for adults and $8.46 for children for evening showings, with matinees running $8.95 for adults. Guests must be 16 or older to attend a movie without an adult or guardian after 5:30 p.m.

Cinnebarre is Regal Cinemas’ full-service dine-in theater that caters to adults. Its upscale atmosphere with a full bar is perfect for a date night, and with two locations just north of Denver, it’s convenient for those living on the northwest side of town. Servers greet you as you sit down and take your order for both alcoholic and nonalcoholic libations and entrees. It’s recommended you arrive at the theater 20 to 30 minutes ahead of time to allow servers to bring your food without interrupting the movie. If you want to order additional items during the movie, never fear — there’s a menu card to fill out and place at your table, and with the press of a button, the server is there.
Select from fun movie-themed snacks like “Pretzels at Tiffany’s” ($9), or stick with the original “Children of the Popcorn” ($8.5), entrees like the “Beauty and the Bison” burger ($16), or the “Indiana Jones and the Last Cheesade” pizza ($13). Finish it off with the “Nutella Professor” ($9), or a boozy shake like “Bonnie & Mudslide” ($10).
Ticketing is cheaper if you buy ahead online and reserve your seat, with economy tickets being as cheap as around $6.50. Anyone under 18 years old must be with an adult 21 or older. Children under 3 years old are only allowed on “Cry Baby Day” — where you can bring your kiddos for the first showing on Tuesdays and not get any dirty looks for outbursts. If you do bring the little ones, kids ages 12 and under eat free with a movie ticket purchase on Mondays.

OK, so maybe this isn’t a typical dine-in movie theater experience, but going to the drive-in theater could be just as fun — and you don’t even have to get out of the car, so keep those PJs on! Pack your car full of blankets and pillows to cozy up and see a double (or triple) feature for less than $10 a person. The 88 Drive-In plays three shows starting at sundown, and the Denver Mart Drive-In plays two shows, with both drive-in’s first feature typically being kid-friendly.
Bring a picnic dinner with your drink of choice, or order from the concession stands at the drive-ins. Both offer limited food options similar to a typical movie theater, but the pricing is a little better than in the theaters. And if you purchase the concession fare, you’re helping support the local theaters stay open, so it’s a win-win! The drive-in can be a fun, nostalgic walk down memory lane that you can share with the wee ones or your other half!
