Despite their celebrity status, Nick and Vanessa Lachey are a lot like us when it comes to parenting their three young children.
The famous duo recently told People that they take an “all hands on deck” approach, coupled with “a lot of teamwork,” when it comes to caring for their children Phoenix Robert, 4 months; Brooklyn Elisabeth, 2; and Camden John, 4 and a half.
“I say this all the time: I would not be able to do this without an active husband, daddy,” Vanessa said.
The Lacheys value their family time. While they still make time for each other, they (like the rest of us parents) can no longer meet up with friends on a whim.
“There’s no spontaneous date nights,” said Vanessa, who told People she needs at least a week’s notice when it comes to making kid-free plans. “We have to make a full plan [and] make sure there’s nothing with the [kids’] schedules.”
While their kids come first, the couple recognizes that it’s still important for them to make quality time for one another, even if a little pre-planning is involved. (We’re always up for some last-minute babysitting!)
“It’s easy, especially with multiple kids, to just get caught up in that — and it’s a beautiful thing to get caught up in,” Nick said. “But it’s also good to have a balance where you’re still seeing your friends, you’re still having date night, you’re still doing things that are important to you outside of your family.”
Their commitment to family — specifically children — is what brought them together from the beginning.
“That was one of the things I think that really drew us to each other is we both really value family and how important family is,” Nick said. “We both knew we wanted a family.”
Parenting isn’t always easy, but we’ve got to hand it to the Lacheys. Bravo, you two!
