Picture this: your baby actually sleeping through the night. And you? You’re sleeping in your OWN bed (not on the floor by the crib) and for hours at a time (not minutes)!!

Apparently, there’s a new doll hitting the market soon that could completely change yours and your baby’s (sleeping) lives for-EV-urr.
Eyrun Eggertsdottir created the “Lulla Doll” to be the ultimate in babies’ sleeping companions, and used existing research on babies’ sleeping patterns to inform her design. Specifically, the doll harnesses the powerful effects of four particular senses — look, hear, smell, touch — on the quality and duration of a baby’s sleep cycle.
According to the Lulla Doll’s Indiegogo website, the “doll imitates closeness with its soft natural touch and by playing a real-life recording of the breathing and heartbeat of a mother at rest.” Let’s break down the specific features that make this doll so unique:
- Recorded Heartbeat — The recording is supposed to help babies stabilize their own heartbeats and breathing patterns so they fall asleep faster — and stay asleep longer.
- Appearance — Studies show that babies prefer looking at objects that resemble human faces, so the doll’s face was designed to include the most minimal “human” features to allow it to also be gender-neutral.
- Fabric — The doll’s fabric is incredibly soft — made from natural cotton — which puts it at the very tippy-top on the “Cuddle-Friendly” scale. Possibly the coolest part about the fabric is that it can absorb the smells of the the babies’ parents to give them that “extra feeling of security.”
- And guess what?? Your new best friend is hypoallergenic AND machine-washable!
