Kids and crowds: one of the biggest headaches (and nightmares) for any parent.
Your day-to-day life is already spent trying to manage all the 987340093480 different things you need to do to keep yours and your kid’s days running smoothly. Add to this scenario one large bustling crowd of other humans and one completely random object/activity that catches your kid’s eye. You take your hand away for one second…JUST ONE…and they’re gone like little silverfish to go find and touch the shiny thing they just saw. The result? One massive coronary for you.
Summer is officially here, and that brings with it puh-LENTY of busy outdoor events in which this terrifying scenario could unfold. Lucky for all of us, the Clovis Police Department in Clovis, California, came up with an absolutely brilliant hack to help parents keep their kids safe in big crowds. And it involves writing your phone number on your kid:
Apparently, the Clovis Police Department provides lots of cool little tips and tricks to help keep Clovis citizens safe and happy. This one is pretty ingenious. If you’re going to a crowded event with your little one, Clovis P.D. recommends that you:
- Write your number on your child’s wrist. No really, you should do it. Obviously, you should avoid using a Sharpie, so find something that shows up on the skin, but is way easier to get rid of.
- Cover the writing in some kind of liquid bandaid solution. That will make it waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about your number rubbing off easily.
- Finally, take a photo of them THAT day, right before you go out. In the event that you get separated, you’ll have an up-to-date photo of the clothes they were wearing and their current hairstyle so they’re easier to track down.
Pretty clever, right? Writing on your kid seems like a really odd thing to do at first, but ultimately, isn’t your child’s safety — and your own peace of mind — worth it?
