Today’s Top Trend: Woman Breastfed an Abandoned Newborn Baby
Yup, you read that right. According to The Daily Mail, an unknown 26-year-old woman volunteered to breastfeed a newborn baby girl, who was found abandoned in a cardboard box in China’s Xianyang city last Wednesday. The woman is being referred to as “the most beautiful mother” by Chinese media for her selfless deed.
Apparently, the child was abandoned early Wednesday morning. Employees of shops in the area reported that they had seen the box, but initially didn’t think anything of it. After a while, the baby began to cry and some curious passersby decided to investigate. Upon opening the box, they discovered the newborn, along with half a bag of milk and roughly $15.33 USD. The onlookers determined that they baby was hungry, but didn’t know what to do about that.
Enter this unknown woman to save the day. A new mother herself, the woman reportedly took the baby into her arms and began to breastfeed her in the middle of the street. This simple act of kindness seemed to do the trick and quieted her down until the police arrived on the scene.
Although the baby wasn’t visibly sick, many people are criticizing the woman for unnecessarily exposing herself (and her own child) to potential health risks that have yet to be determined. Be that as it may — and if this story is actually true — this woman’s behavior is a testament to the old adage, “It takes a village.”
