Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this week, which means we’ll have six more weeks of winter! Ugh – I’m so ready for spring! I think I’ll start getting ready and clean my closet. I know I have tons of clothes I don’t wear, and I can donate them to several worthy organizations.
1. The Salvation Army
An established charity, The Salvation Army operates thrift stores across the United States and uses the profits to fund their programs. Schedule a pickup or drop off your donations at a local store.
2. Goodwill
Over 3,200 Goodwill donation centers across the U.S. accept clothing donations. Each store employs disadvantaged individuals and supports job training opportunities.
3. Dress for Success
This organization provides dress clothes to women in need. Donate your professional attire and give other women a jumpstart on their new careers.
4. Schoola
Donate women’s and children’s clothing any time of the year to Schoola. Your items are sorted and sold, with the profits benefitting local schools.
5. Local Crisis Centers, Shelters or Churches
Contact a local crisis center, shelter or church and ask if they accept clothing donations. They receive dozens of clothing requests every week and often share clothes with people in need.
6. Host a Clothing Swap Party
Invite your friends to clean out their closets, too, and host a clothing swap party. Beat the winter blues and restock your wardrobe.
Donation Guidelines
Any time you donate clothes, follow a few simple guidelines.
*The clothes should be clean.
*Make sure items are in good condition with no rips, tears, pilling or wear.
*Ensure size tags are still attached.
