If there’s a better way to celebrate fall, I’m all ears.
Houston might not get brilliantly red trees or big piles of crunchy leaves, but there’s one fall staple the city does really well: corn mazes! Among the many fall festivities happening in and around Houston, several area farms go all out to make elaborate designs in Texas-sized cornfields that are fun for the whole family to tromp through.
Parents, nannies, and babysitters in need of a fun, safe place to get a little lost this autumn can take the kids to check out one of these great Houston-area corn mazes.

About a 20-minute drive from Katy, or an hour’s drive west from Houston, Dewberry Farm is the place of childhood dreams. Every year, the farm’s 8-acre cornfield is plowed into a fun design, full of twists and U-turns. But the corn maze is only a tiny slice of what there is to see and do at Dewberry. Over the years, the farm has built more than 40 activities — including trike racing, a 26-foot-tall slide, and jumping pillows — that make it a beloved attraction for many Houston families. With a huge pumpkin patch and a wildflower garden, Dewberry is also a great spot for snapping photos.
With all there is to do, it’s no surprise that tickets are at a bit of a premium — the cost is roughly $30 a person for everyone aged 3 and up — but considering Dewberry Farm is a veritable country-themed amusement park, you really do get what you pay for.
P-6 Farm

On the north end of town, just past the Woodlands near Sam Houston National Forest, P-6 Farm offers a similar theme park-style experience. The carved-out field is full of thick rows of tall, bushy cornstalks and more than a few dead ends. In addition to the corn maze, the farm boasts a hay maze that’s great for little ones, as well as wheelbarrow races, a tractor-pulled cow train, a Ferris wheel, vintage kiddie carnival rides, and — of course — a pumpkin patch.
While the daytime activities are geared toward younger kids, teens and adults can enjoy the farm’s terrifying “Field of Screams” experience, hosted after dark on Saturdays in October. The normally tame corn maze converts to a jaw-dropping haunted trail that’s not for the faint of heart — or kids under 12. Ticket prices vary depending on the activity, but you’ll get a better price if you buy them ahead of time on the farm’s website.

At about a two-hour drive west of downtown, the Rocky Creek Maze — located on the Chaloupka Farm about halfway between Houston and San Antonio — is a bit of a hike to reach, but worth it if you enjoy a challenge. This corn maze has more than 2.5 miles of paths winding through it and typically takes 30-45 minutes to complete. The intricate layouts are plotted using a computer program before being carved into the field, with designs featuring a wide range of thank-yous, advertisements, or cartoon characters. Unlike similar sites, Rocky Creek Maze also lets you bring in your own food and beverages, with the exception of alcohol, so families can work up an appetite without worrying about spending an arm and a leg on concessions.
While the maze is the biggest attraction on-site, the farm features a range of kid-friendly activities, like a giant sandbox, a barrel train, and a butterfly garden. The last three Fridays and Saturdays in October, Rocky Creek Maze offers a haunted labyrinth, separate from the main corn maze. Visitors ages 10 and older take a hayride to the start of the haunted trail and meander through the winding path, where they’ll encounter a range of scary creatures hiding in the stalks. It’s a fun way for older kids to get into the Halloween spirit.
Tomball Corn Maze

Revenue from the maze goes toward teacher projects, school activities, and school clubs, among other philanthropic initiatives and mission trips.
The 5-acre maze is more relaxed than most, with visitors encouraged to go at their own pace. Kids are welcome to play hide-and-seek amid the stalks, and the path also features a special section for those who want to take in a little meditation and get away from the craziness of everyday life. The maze is designed to be challenging for teens and tweens, but helpful hints and clues are offered along the way for young kids struggling to find their way. Games are also set up throughout the maze, and you can go through as many times as you like. Admission is good for the whole day.
Froberg’s Farm

Froberg’s Farm is fun year-round, but especially during the fall when the farm hosts its annual fall festival and corn maze. The maze is challenging — but not too hard — and when you’re done, there’re plenty of other activities to try. Trek over to the farm’s flower garden for some great photo opportunities, partake in a plastic duck race or two, or get a glitter tattoo. After dark, enjoy a peaceful star-gazing hayride or scare-free stroll through the maze. Froberg’s is all about family-friendly fun and won’t ever try to scare you — even at night.
Also on-site, you’ll find Greak’s Smokehouse — where various smoked meats and sausages are available for purchase — as well as a bakery and seasonal produce shop with tons of fresh fruits and vegetables that you can buy and take home with you after a fun day on the farm.
