13-Year-Old Operatic Singer Crushes Her “America’s Got Talent” Audition

13-Year-Old Operatic Singer Crushes Her “America’s Got Talent” Audition

It’s time to break out the tissues again, kiddos.

I’m not usually one for shows like “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent.” However, Trend Spotters don’t get to be trend spotters by watching BBC mysteries, do they? So, occasionally I’ll fall on my sword and tune into one of those shows to stay hip and current with the times. They usually have a couple acts that are pretty entertaining (FIGHTING GRAVITY 2010, ANYONE??), but every once in a while they’ll have a performer come on who unexpectedly blows everyone away.

Last night’s episode of “America’s Got Talent” was one of those moments.

After a series of flops and failures, Simon Cowell looked to be at his wit’s end with America’s “talent.” Enter young Laura Bretan, a 13-year old aspiring opera singer, to leave Simon literally speechless (a win for all of us) and to win over the hearts of every single human watching the show:

Here’s the video showing Laura’s journey to the auditions, her actual performance, and the reactions from every one of the judges. If you want to skip to the performance, go to 2:00. There, you will see this 13-year-old ABSOLUTELY. CRUSH. IT.:

Did you catch that absolutely adorable moment where she shot her mom a thumbs’ up before her performance?? SO CUTE.

And not only is this young lady one of the most talented performers to get that stage, but she’s also one of the most likable. Simon Cowell even brought it up: her talent is one thing, but what really sold the crowd on her was her humility and poise. In one of those rare moments, this kid had every one of us agreeing with Simon when he asked, “She’s REALLY 13??”

While this was such a beautiful moment for Laura, one also has to wonder what all this fame will do to her. We’ve heard the rumors and “cautionary tales” of other child stars who came before her. Do you think being on this show will send Laura down the same path? Or will it truly help her, as the judges promise? What do you think?
