Wildflower Preschool Lafayette

Wildflower Preschool is a neighborhood school that includes preschool and pre-K programs, serving children between the ages of 2 -6 years old. The school is open Monday through Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm. We operate according to the BVSD school annual calendar for major holidays, closures and inclement weather.

At Wildflower Preschool, we foster the child as a scientist; always experimenting, exploring nature, testing their hypotheses and continually molding their view of the world in which they live. We support emergent curriculum, but incorporate periodic themes where we integrate several different learning areas including: Storybook Journeys, Science and Nature Exploration, Music and Movement, Sign Language, and Nutrition and Exercise. Our teachers enrich the environment daily to encourage child-directed exploration and sensorial learning. We establish daily home-like routines and incorporate gardening, cooking, art, free play, nature walks, and quiet time in order to bridge the child's transition from the home to school. The development of social-emotional skills in our students is a key component in our classroom routines. We use a purchased social-emotional curriculum called Second Step, as structure for our intentional instruction to support social and emotional competencies.

At Wildflower Preschool, our mission is to provide quality learning and care of the highest standard. Our enriched environment promotes independent thinking and a positive self-image in all of our students. We believe that children develop at their own pace and teachers are intended to scaffold, or assist, them in reaching their highest potential. Our staff members consistently model respectful behaviors and healthy habits. We follow the Pyramid Plus Model and use the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment Program to help teach our children positive social behaviors while we focus on the strengths of each child. Both programs encourage positive relationships between teachers and families while working to support the child.
Wildflower Preschool is dedicated to the promotion of healthy lifestyles by staying active and eating nutritious meals. Children attending the school will participate in weekly yoga lessons and hikes in the Boulder County Open Space. We have a tricycle path and vehicles on our playground to allow for plenty of gross motor movement each day. We also follow the guidelines of 5-2-1-0, or the "Let's Go" campaign.
