In-Home Daycare
5504 W. Lapham Street, West Milwaukee, WI 53214
My name is Lexi, I am a mother and a certified teacher with degrees in mathematics and psychology. I have studied Waldorf and Montessori Methods at length and I try to incorporate pieces of these ideologies into everyday learning activities.
I believe in treating every child who enters my home as unique and individual part of our small childcare family. I offer a fun, creative, and active family environment, where children of all ages fit in to our group quickly and are invited to participate in all group activities at an age appropriate level.
I work with pre-school and school age children for 30 mins to 1hour daily on "homework" based on grade level/ ability, sometimes all the kids work on the same project (like creating a book for their families), sometimes they work individually in workbooks.
We have family style meals and snacks that are homemade and organic. Kids help to prepare snacks and set and clear their place settings. Infants and Toddlers even participate in meal time (as long as it does not interfere with their sleeping schedule).
We feel that a daily "break" is important - depending on your child's age and your wishes, your child would read quietly, rest, or sleep.
We spend as much time as possible outdoors, or working on group projects. Although we do not believe that it is appropriate to park the kids in front of the TV for hours, we do enjoy watching age appropriate movies on super hot or rainy days.
This is a small family business, I employ my husband and my mother to help with daily activities, and field trips They are both in my home every day and are amazing with the kids. We all truly love what we do! My daughter (age 6) participates in our daily activities. It is important to her (and to us) that she is one of the gang during childcare hours.
We live in a large house in the Village of West Milwaukee (near Miller Park, not far from 94), We have a playroom that is set up for free/independent play and art and craft projects, a large finished basement that serves as a recreation area on cold or rainy days, rest areas for each child (including portable cribs for little ones), a veggie garden, a neighborhood full of families who love all of "our kids", parks within walking distance, and transportation to and from weekly field trips (library, parks, beaches, etc.)
One of our families just moved out of state, so we have found ourselves with 3 openings. References and Tours of our home are available upon request.
