I was born to teach. For me there are few things more uplifting than sharing the gift of knowledge with someone else. When that someone else is a little person, experiencing everything for the first time, it somehow lifts me higher and makes my smile a little wider. I believe with all my heart that it is my capacity to love, listen and learn others that makes me a good teacher. When I am teaching young children, those skills are especially important. Children feel at ease to know that I will take time to show them new things, allow them to explore their world, and am just as excited by the little things as they are.
I began caring for and teaching infants and toddlers in the mid '90s and have been paid to teach just about every age in the years since. I have recent college-level early childhood training (2011) and CPR (2012). My teaching style focuses on the individual child, thus I cannot say that I use one particular curriculum or method. I am quite creative in my teaching, so I always use a blend of activities to ensure that the child is both learning and enjoying it. I am however, partial to using Montessori methods for reading and math, as well as independence training and sensory enhancement. (I have no accredited Montessori training, just a lot of research on her methods.)
In December 2011, I was blessed to birth a child of my own. As of June 2013, my awesome daughter is 18 months old. She is very friendly, polite, active and eager to learn. She is a tough but not rough little girl. She loves nature walks, books, music and Elmo. She has been potty trained for a few months now. She can identify eight shapes, read twelve letters phonetically, and is working on her numbers. She also uses sign language to say the names of things she cannot yet pronounce, but speaks quite a few intelligible words. Since her birth, I have encouraged a growth of confidence and independence in her, by giving her "just-my-size" challenges and ample praise. Educating her has become my life. Therefore, it is my mission to find her three classmates with which to share her early learning experiences. I am looking for mothers who are interested in allowing our toddlers to build a long-term scholastic relationship and friendship together. I promise to engage and educate your child as my own...and they will learn from each other in a small, safe, and enticing environment.
*I am open to offering summer-care/after-care for older siblings as well.
