Somerset Academy is founded on the premise that children learn through the process of experience, exploration and play. Room environments support weekly themes that make learning exciting and powerful. Our children are fully immersed as they enjoy opportunities to develop friendships, build imagination, explore independently and interact within groups while learning new skills. Our hands-on approach to learning ensures that children spend each day exploring, experimenting, playing and growing in a warm creative environment.
Our program has general monthly themes that are established and coordinated center-wide, designed to promote developmental skills and build awareness. We utilize research-based preschool curriculum that fosters the joy for learning through sensory-based experiences. Our curriculum aligns with Pennsylvania and Common Core standards, NAEYC, and Head Start indicators. Young children learn best by experimenting with their environment through hands-on activities and play, and at Somerset Academy, Learning Centers are a vital part of our program. Our Learning Centers give children hands-on experiences and play opportunities and are changed to fit the theme and goals for the month. Each center has activities that promote individual and independent learning. Learning Center activities encourage creativity, investigation, problem solving and critical thinking; while promoting positive self-esteem and competence. At Somerset Academy, our children experience real life situations and activities that encourage them to expand their independence.
