Hello! I am Shirley.

Besides caring for my 3 sons who are grown and on their own, I have worked 4 years with a Day Care and have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grades for Pitt Co. Schools as an assistant teacher. I continue to work as a substitute teacher.

I have 10 direct years of professional experience with toddlers and early elementary aged children. There are games and activities I can incorporate into the day straight from Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade work stations. I use music and drama as well to change things up. As far as arts and crafts, there is so much to draw from because of teaching elementary school and previous work in day-care including many educational web sites.

I exhibit good examples and encouragement. I work to expand language skills and to develop interdependency. Safety and structure are present everyday. I particularly enjoy reading to children. Although I enjoy story telling and reading to children, I am also familiar with the authors the school system will incorporate into your child's curriculum. These selections help to build phonics skills, imagery association and comprehension.

When growing up, my family owned a small house on the Neuse River. It was during those growing up years that I developed a love for Nature and the outdoors. I continue to satisfy that longing by taking daily walks, visiting River Park North and occasionally going on a camping trip. There is so much I can share of this to your children.

I have an outstanding driving record and am currently an active Instructor with The NC Driving School in Winterville.. Peers and students alike will describe me as friendly, funny and passionate about my teaching.

Any housework, cooking or errands are no problem as I cook everyday for myself and cook for my dance club on occasion (150-170). I enjoy cooking and don't mind housework.

Please don't be dismayed with my age. My level of energy and vigor will surprise you. My maturity and experience also enables my ability to remain calm, directive and efficient in an emergency if it should develop.
