Shelby's Daycare

Hi there! My name is Shelby Johnson and I am currently offering in-home daycare for children between the ages of 2 to 12 years old. I have worked with children for nearly 9 years now. At 15 years old, I began working in a nursery where I cared for children between the ages of 3 months and 12 years old. During this time, my passion for working with children guided my educational goals. I went on to earn my bachelor s degree in Educational Studies from Arizona State University in 2014. I then completed graduate school, earning my master s degree in Psychology during the spring of 2017. After graduating, I began teaching 3rd grade at a charter school, where I was responsible for 32 students. Some of my other employment history includes lifeguarding, where I became safety manager of a country club pool. I then transitioned into coaching a swim team for a competitive youth group. I was also a lead instructor for a company called Horses Help. We provided equine therapy for children living with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Some common disabilities included autism spectrum disorder, paralysis, and Down syndrome. On a more personal note, I am very creative and still a kid-at-heart, so I enjoy staying active and of course, having fun! I find great importance in educating through the use of hands-on activities. I enjoy creating an atmosphere where children feel safe to explore and learn both independently and in a group setting. I also place high emphasis on the development of life skills, such as manners, cleanliness, etc. I look forward to creating meaningful relationships with the children and family I care for!
