Sccap Head Start

The Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) programs are federally funded community-based programs for low-income families. The South Central Community Action Program Head Start and Early Head Start Programs serve all of Monroe County. Early Head Start is for families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Head Start is for families with children ages 3 to 5 years old.

The Early Head Start program promotes healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, parenting skills, early childhood education, and enhanced development services to children at the most critical time in their development- from birth to three - and their families. Currently South Central Community Action Program offers a center-based and home-based option to families for Early Head Start.

The Head Start program provides half-day and full-day program options at many different sites throughout Monroe County. The full-day year round program offers affordable alternative childcare to parents. Children participate in a variety of educational activities that reflect best practices in early childhood education. The program strives to create a learning environment that will develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Services are provided to children with special needs. The Early Head Start and Head Start programs also encourages parents to build their skills by becoming involved in their child s program, which raises their self-confidence and improves decision-making abilities.
