Safari Small Schools is education done right! Newly established in Canton, Texas, Safari is an exemplary alternative to traditional public schools. Our low student to teacher ratio, 5:1, allows us to teach students the way they learn best and to give them the attention they need and deserve. We can teach students rather than spending the entire school year preparing to take the standardized tests. At Safari, we assess our learners regularly for growth and achievement. We DO NOT participate in state testing.
Safari Small Schools is an excellent option for students who are not thriving in the traditional classroom setting. Our ideal students may live with anxiety, be academically below grade level, have behavior problems in school, be identified with a learning or other disability or simply prefer smaller, structured environments.
Our students receive a comprehensive education through lots of hands-on activities, movement and fun projects. We start our day with bible devotional time and prayer each morning. Our students take a 10-minute break every hour and enjoy two healthy snacks each day. We take exciting safaris (field trips), volunteer in the community each season and engage in charitable activities that benefit others.
Safari Small Schools offers full-day, year-round instruction with long holiday weekends throughout the year. We also observe select federal holidays. Students are welcome to vacation with their families and are encouraged to take lessons with them, though it isn't mandatory. Safari will provide far more than public schools are able to provide, despite their good intentions. Safari has been developed so ALL students achieve socially and academically. Our parents are a vital part of this process.
Dr. Teresa Sanders is the director and owner of Safari Small Schools. She has been a Special Education teacher working with students with challenging behaviors for 14 years. She has worked successfully with students with a wide range of behavior problems. She is a strong proponent of literacy and provides numerous opportunities to practice reading and writing throughout the school day.
She has 20 years of experience in community mental health working with children as young as four-years-old. Dr. Sanders has a bachelors degree in Human Services, a masters degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction and a doctorate degree in Education Leadership. She started Safari Small Schools for those being left behind in public schools.
