About the business
Serving the Lancaster, Va, region, with professional and experienced pet care in your home. Owner, Susan, lives full time at River Paws Farm, along with her husband, and daughter, and a menagerie of their own pets, including dogs, cats, and even a few chickens. Susan also tends to the resident feral cat population, to make sure they are doing well, at any given time.
Susan is originally from Maryland, near Annapolis. Upon discovering her farm property in the Northern Neck though, several years ago, she was hooked, on the beauty of the region, and the friendly community!
Susan worked for many years in the Environmental field, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from St. Mary's College of Maryland, and a Master's in Environmental Management, from the University of Maryland University College. After several amazing positions over the years, including work with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, near Annapolis, and many years with Virginia American Water, in Alexandria, Va, she set off on a new course, creating her own pet resort business in 2002, in scenic Hollywood, MD. Susan sold her business in May, 2017, after 15 years, to pursue her new adventures, here at River Paws Farm, in Lancaster, VA.
Susan's pet resort, then known as Chesapeake Pet Resort & Day Spa, was created out of her passion for pets, and a strong desire to provide an amazing pet care experience at the rural property she brought back to life, which had sat vacant for sometime. With a great deal of love, sweat, and tears, Susan created an operation which was loved from near and far, with many clients often booking many months in advance for their pet boarding services and to make sure their pets had a spot for the deluxe pet cabins. With the help of a fantastic team of staff over the years, Susan was very proud of what became known regionally as the clean and friendly place.

We got a Jack Russell puppy in 2008 and when he became big enough to stay at Chesapeake Pet Resort. He loved it from the first time and still goes there every week for a play day every Thursday. He loves his home away from home! There were also times when we were on travel and needed someone to come in our home to feed our boys, the JRT and the Yorkie. Susan was dependable and loving with our boys. We felt confident they were well taken care of each and every time.

I have known Susan Ditch for over 20 years. We first met her when our vet at the time referred us to her kennel. As owner and caretaker of Chesapeake Pet Resort, she was the best. We never had to worry about our dogs when they were in her care. Our dogs tell the same story - basically dragging us in to see her and staff at the kennel for play dates. Can't say enough about her work ethic and love for the animals.

My 2 Furbabies Asa & Gus use to stay at Susan's previous kennel "Chesapeake Pet Resort" in Hollywood, MD. I never worried when they were there, great place. We miss her !!! My Pups also were also there for the 2016 blizzard. You folks in VA. are lucky to have her, she will love your pets like her own.

Owner provided in home care for my menagerie of pets on multiple occasion. Gave exceptional care to multiple dogs, cats, rabbits and a fish.
Reliable, responsible and caring. Great at communicating with me and giving updates. Went above and beyond during a unexpected blizzard to make sure my pets were cared for.
