The Portage YMCA Preschool Academy is a nine month program for children, 3-5 yrs old, who are one or two years away from kindergarten. Our dedicated teachers help children reach their full potential in an academically structured environment. They work closely with the Portage Township School Kindergarten teachers to assist us in remaining current on all the requirements your child will need for school success. As a participant in our preschool, your family will also have the opportunity to join so many activities the Y has to offer at the member rate. Financial scholarships are available for low income families.

Preschool Academy - Must be 4 on or before August 1 of upcoming school year.
We want children to perceive school as a fun and exciting place to be as we prepare them for kindergarten. For these students who are one year away from kindergarten, we focus on school readiness along with social and physical development. Our dedicated teachers will help your child reach his or her full potential and capabilities in fun and inviting classrooms. In addition to academic skills (colors, shapes, numbers, alphabet, spelling, reading readiness, early math skills, cutting, and life skills), we also have gym days, cooking activities, special events, field trips, and so much more. The year wraps up with a graduation ceremony in May.

Junior Academy - Must be 3 on or before August 1 of upcoming school year.
For those who are two years away from kindergarten, Junior Academy supports young children in their development by introducing them to the world of academics in a fun and nurturing environment. A progressive program, children learn all the fundamentals necessary to advance to our Pre-K program. Must be fully potty trained to attend class.
