MEET the TEACHER
Mrs. Brownell is an AMI certified Primary Montessori teacher who has a M.Ed. in Montessori education from Loyola University of Maryland. She also has a B.Sc. in Early Childhood Education with a minor in psychology from Charter Oak University, CT. She has a total of 5 years of classroom experience as a primary guide in Montessori private schools and a total of 10+ years of experience working with children.
One of her focuses is to develop child-specific strategies that will support the development of your child's Executive Functioning skills, and provide those strategies to parents to support further development at home. A parent's role and a commitment to these strategies is a major key to the children's success.*

What is a Montessori Primary program?
It is a child-centered, personalized curriculum. It is based on an individual observation so your child will work at his/her own pace while participating in a mixed age classroom community. The teacher is trained to closely observe and respect each child's unique potential and connect them with the lesson best suited at that precise moment of development.
It is a three year curriculum. Montessori is a continuum curriculum which means that the child learns and builds a strong set of academic skills that he/she experiences each year including the traditional "kindergarten year" in the third year where we witness the seeds of learning come to fruition through character development and executive functioning skills.
It is the children's house/environment. The teacher is trained in preparing the environment to be a tool that stimulates the child's senses, interest and development. Therefore, the child develops a sense of classroom ownership and a drive to care for his/her environment which deepens the bonds within the community and their love of learning.
It is a mixed age classroom, where the younger children learn by observing the older children and the older children gain self-confidence, leadership skills and responsibility by setting an example for the younger children. This is also one reason that participating in all 3 years of learning in Montessori curriculum is so important.
