Our goal is to provide a safe, secure environment for your child that caters to physical, social, and cognitive development. Parents, as a child s first and most important teacher, are an important part of our program. In our program, we hope to build a partnership between home and school that benefits the development and growth of your child.
Patience Schafer Director of New Leaves Child Center who is finishing her Bachelor of Arts whose primary major is Social Science and secondary major of Social Work. As a Youth Yoga Instructor, she can teach children the tools and techniques to reduce stress and develop self-control, attention, fitness and social/emotional skills. The unique integration of physical, mental and emotional skills-building supports both learning and health. It s focus on communication skills, emotional resiliency, mindfulness and positive behaviors brings enrichment through the children s development.
New Leaves is based on a child development model which incorporates educational theorists Dewey, Montessori, Erikson, Piaget, Vygotsky amongst others. Learning through play is viewed as the cornerstone of the curriculum. Adults provide protection, security, stimulation, support, limits and affection. Children are respected as individuals, within a child-orientated rather than teacher-directed program.
At New Leaves children are given the opportunity to explore materials and participate in a variety of experiences. Activities are carefully planned and implemented in an environmentally appropriate structured room. Children are free to choose from age-appropriate activities including: art, music, language development, pre-math skills, science and nature, and dramatic play. Children develop self-esteem, independence and problem-solving skills as they make choices and assist in planning the environment and the activities.
Our primary goal is for our children to feel safe and secure. Prior to being independent, a child must know that he or she can depend on adults in a predictable environment. Children are treated with respect and kindness.
