Nesting Place Preschool

About

Nesting Place Preschool is a play-based, christian, preschool program designed to cultivate early learning for children ages 3-5 to develop a strong sense of curiosity and confidence and to build physical, cognitive, and social/emotional skills in preparation for kindergarten.

Class sizes are small with an emphasis on the teacher/student relationship. Learning is fostered in a beautiful, safe, and nurturing environment.

About Me:
My name is Simone and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your children. In order for you to understand me better as a teacher I thought it would be helpful to explain my teaching philosophy and the inspiration behind the curriculum. My teaching philosophy has been influenced by my experiences as a teacher, my college studies, and the Reggio Emilia teaching approach.

As a teacher, I believe my main role is as a facilitator of learning. Also, part of my role as a teacher is to partner with my students' parents so that learning and developmental support occurs both in school and at home. In my classroom I employ an emergent, play-based curriculum. I strongly believe that children learn best when they are active and able to explore and experience new things. This view on curriculum is in part informed by, "The Project Method" developed by William Kilpatrick. In The Project Method, Kilpatrick states that learning based on a wholehearted desire to complete a task (or Project) is more effective, and psychologically satisfying, than learning based on coercion. Learning in this fashion results in the ability and desire to learn more and also leads to shared social relationships that promote a democratic society.

I have an FBI Fingerprint Clearance card and CPR/First Aid Certified along with a Food Handlers Card.

What you can expect:

-Organic Meals: cooked from scratch daily and are gluten free. We will not be eating anything processed, and all juice will be pure 100% fruit and vegetable juices from a masticating juicer. Lunch and snacks will be provided by me. I also have experience with special dietary needs, such as; Celiac/gluten free, Vegetarian/Vegan, Dairy allergy, Milk allergy, Tree nut allergies.

-Natural Cleaning: I do not use any chemical products. All cleaning supplies are 100% natural, organic and safe.

-Essential Oils: I use essential oil diffusers in my home for aromatherapy. All essential oils are kept out of reach and are 100% organic, highest food grade quality.

-Atelier (Art Studio): The Atelier/Art Studio was designed to offer children a space to extend and support projects and experiences in the classroom, and to explore and combine many types of materials, tools, and techniques. Our Atelier at Nesting Place Preschool is located in our Barn and will offer a place to paint, use clay, knit, sew and draw.

Reggio Approach to Learning:
I have been trained in the Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
Some of the essential features of the Reggio Emilia approach are as follows:
* Children are at the center of the educational process.
* Children learn by using all their senses.
* Teachers observe and learn from the children as facilitators and
collaborators.
* Parents are expected to collaborate and be involved in the day to day activities.
* The environment is an important teaching component.

Christian Preschool:
While our preschool is a faith based preschool there is no formal biblical teaching in the classrooms. You may hear us sing songs or read child appropriate stories as part of our day. A small blessing is normally shared during snack time and words like "forgiveness" and "grace" are used by the teachers and students to show kindness and respect.
