Ms. Retresha's Neighborschool

I was excited to start my own family child care program in 2018 to be able to bring something new to the care options for parents. I am proud that my program is unique in that we embrace bringing creative arts to the young children, such as art, music, and theater. Our program believes Integrated learning is much more than just exposure to different forms of art while at school. Arts is an approach to teaching and learning in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. We use various forms of art (drama, music, storytelling, puppets, visual arts, and creative movement) as primary pathways to learning. We work with each child to foster their developmental skills in each area by implementing a creative curriculum to do lesson plans, etc. The children go on field trips to the library, children's museum, zoo, Aquarium, Puppet museum, and indoor play area seasonally. While we follow a creative arts curriculum, we do change activities often throughout the day and have the typical circle time, we build with blocks, the kids learn science, and more. In terms of schedule, we are structured as a preschool might operate, but the kids get so much more with creative arts and a home setting in the mix.
