Ms. Marie's Neighborschool

To the children, I bring my experience as a social worker and as an educator. I truly believe that their time with me is the foundation for a good start to kindergarten, and their entire future. I value that the parents trust me enough to help raise their children and prepare them for tomorrow. My program is more than just a place for the children to eat and sleep and play. I want to make sure they are learning everything they need socially, emotionally, and intellectually in order to have the best future possible. I really feel like if I'm not doing this then I'm not doing anything for them and that I'm not fulfilling my obligation as an educator. When they leave my care, I want to be sure that they are ready to embark on their next step.

I have been doing this for 17 years now and so many parents still keep in touch with me to tell me how their child is doing. Some of my children have even graduated from high school now and I've always been invited! A lot of children and parents come back to visit. It's my greatest satisfaction to see that. Again, this is so much more than a job for me. There is so much love for the children, and a huge vision for their future in my heart.

When parents and children come here, they know they're welcome and in good hands. I also love the beautiful relationships I get to build with parents. I'm not only an educator of their children, but I get to be there for them in a counselor role. We get to talk about life and goals for them and their children. I sit down to help the family in any way I can because we are a team. We work together to help the child succeed. This is the foundation for their lives and building that with both parents and educator is key. That is how I teach; that is my philosophy!
