The Montessori School of Herndon (MSH)believes that the child is a self-motivated, active learner. This is why we construct our classrooms such that our teachers can gradually introduce new skills according to the interest, needs, and abilities of each student. We wish to give the children an environment to enjoy learning in order to create a foundation for continued and self-sustained learning as the child grows.

We also believe in a non-competitive approach to the classroom. A student’s progress is based solely on the child’s dedication, desire to learn, and effort, not comparisons to the achievements of others. Children should learn through active, personal exploration so that they can foster a genuine appreciation for knowledge. For these reasons, we provide individualized instructions according to the needs of each child so that they might be challenged but not pressured to be at the same level as their peers.

Through individualized care and self-motivated work, MSH students develop an organized approach to problem-solving and strong academic skills at an early age. They are confident, self-disciplined, and independent, and they grow to believe they can accomplish anything through hard work, dedication, and collaboration.
