Miss Mindy's Daycare is my in-home daycare ran by me Mindy Swanson. I am an early childhood educator with 10+ years of experience. I have experience teaching and caring for children ages birth to 5+ years old. Children have always been a major part of my life. As a teen my main job was babysitting and couldn't wait for the day I'd have my own children. I got married and was a stay at home mom for our 2 children until my youngest started Kindergarten. It was after helping in their classrooms that I realized I was meant to be an early childhood teacher and went back to school and got my degree. I taught at King of Glory Lutheran Preschool were both my children had attended, for 7 years, then worked for The Learning Tree in Elgin as a lead Pre-K teacher for 3 years. A few years ago I felt I was called to teach and care for children out of my home. It has been wonderful watching the children I care for grow and flourish. One of the best things about my business is the lifelong relationships I have made with the families I have cared for. My family loves having the children in our home, they bring us great joy. My husband Jeff and I have two children who aren't so little anymore. My son is 20 and attends Elgin Community College and my daughter is 17 and is a Senior in High School. Both will be going away to school in the fall. Having the children in our home has taught our kids about the growth and development of young children. It's awesome to watch our kids play and interact with the children. I look at it as practice for when they have their own families someday.
The children I care for not only have fun while they are here but they are also learning. I teach using developmentally appropriate activities. I believe in hands-on activities where children can explore and be curious, coming up with their own questions about the theme we are learning about. We work on social and emotional skills, then as they get older we move onto colors, letters, numbers, and counting etc. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are provided daily. The children also have a napping schedule, 2-5-year-olds take a 2-hour nap in the afternoon and infants are as needed.
