Mel's Bright Beginnings

After many years of working either as a nanny (2 years) and daycare/preschool teacher (10+ years), I've opened my own in home daycare! I am accepting infants and toddlers. I am listed with the state of Texas, CPR/First Aid certified, SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome trained, as well as many other continuing education hours in early childhood education although I received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in Social Science. I have two children ages 14 and 15. Hours of operation are 7:15-6:00 Monday thru Friday with the option of extended care.
My program offers a theme based curriculum which focuses on the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral development of children. The environment is clean and safe. A comfortable place where children can explore and play. I encourage the development of language arts through reading, American Sign Language, flash cards, verbal communication and other ways. I use activities that promote using our five senses to explore. Arts and crafts to bring out a child's creative side, even infants love painting! Lots of singing and finger plays to promote the development of music and movement. And of course a child's favorite, large motor activities where your child can run, jump, crawl, climb, stand- all those fun things that children love to do! Although I am not fluent in Spanish, every week I include 3 Spanish words that go along with the theme as well as everyday Spanish words like please, thank you, numbers, etc.
