What Makes McAlpine Elementary Special

You can feel the excitement when you walk into McAlpine Elementary. We are truly a family of students, teachers, support staff, and parents working together to bring out the best in every child. All of our staff and students are a member of a House at McAlpine. Our houses were named for the Swahili words virtue (Fadhila), passion (Hashiki), honor (Heshima), and dream (Ruya). This year we are building our house on a solid foundation. Our goal is to ensure that every child is reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade. With a solid foundation in reading, there is no limit as to what our students can accomplish.

Students must feel safe from bullying, supported and motivated by their teachers in order to excel as scholars.

Academic excellence will be achieved with instruction and assessment aligned with the Common Core and Essential Standards.

Designing integrated lesson units and incorporating project-based learning opportunities increases rigor, relevance, and student engagement for higher levels of learning.

Daily classroom learning experiences must provide equal access to every learner as well as motivate, engage, and provoke students to think at higher levels.

Responding to every student s performance with prompt and descriptive feedback increases their chance of success.

Healthy partnerships with parents, volunteers, and community stakeholders support our efforts in laying the foundation of good character and responsible citizenship.
