Living Innovations has been supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families for over twenty years. It has been a dramatic period of growth at all levels: for the people we support, their supportive caregivers, and the organization. It helps to look at Living Innovations history in a broader, exciting context of the expansion of human rights in our country, and sweeping changes in the way society views people with disabilities.
We have much to be proud of for our part in this revolution .Living Innovations has supported 100 s of people to move from segregated settings into a natural home with a Shared Living Provider. Hundreds of others have transitioned successfully from their childhood homes to another family-kind of setting or to independent living. In fact, Living Innovations has led the way in advancing the shared living approach in the provider community to the great benefit of so many.
Responding to the intentions of our funding sources and the desires of people with disabilities we also produced and fashioned Community Connections. The program ensures that people have not only a supportive home, but opportunities to become truly involved in their communities- as employees, volunteers, church members, activists, and friends.
As Living Innovations continues to grow, additional services such as in-home supports, case management, children s services and others have been added to meet needs in particular geographic areas. The agency today provides services for around a thousand people with disabilities. With all of the growth and all of the changes occurring in the human services field, the bedrock of Living Innovations has never varied our commitment to our Mission: To provide support to people with disabilities to have a good life, at home and in the community.
In addition to our Mission our ideals are reinforced by eight core Values. These were developed in a collaborative process with our employees and stakeholders. You can read these at the bottom of this page, and they are proudly displayed in each of our offices.…
