About the business
My business was formerly known as Specialized Tutoring Service. I discontinued my business for a few years because I was taking care of my father, who had vascular dementia. He died in 2013. Since then, I have been working in the non-profit sector as an America Reads program coordinator and also as a director of volunteers for a senior center. My background is in Education, however, and I am now working as an ELL teacher for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and am returning to school to get my PA certification in Special Education. I am a PA certified Reading Specialist and have tutored students with learning disabilities and also those on the autistic spectrum since 2010.
My philosophy is that EVERY student, regardless of learning issues or handicapping condition, CAN learn and achieve their full potential. The 1:1 relationship between the tutor and student is invaluable. I encourage students to learn about their own learning problems and I work with them to fine-tune instruction based on THEIR needs and preferences. Forcing a tutoring client into a learning method that does not work for him or her is counterproductive and just leads to more stress.
I look forward to working with families who have children or teenagers (also help college students) who are struggling with learning issues. It is so rewarding.
