In-Home Daycare

Kodomo

1970 Crested Butte Court, Loveland, CO 80538

About

Hello! My name is Miho Akizuki, and Kodomo is my licensed home child care.

Kodomo literally translates to "child" in Japanese, which is my native language.

I attended Colorado State University in 1996. My concentration was Early Childhood Development. In 2000, I returned to CSU and completed the Early Childhood Education teacher licensing program. I worked at the CSU Early Childhood Center for 10 years. I also worked with children in Japan for a couple of years.

Kodomo is a Reggio Emilia inspired home childcare for toddlers and younger preschoolers in Loveland, CO.

The Reggio Emilia educational philosophy is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education. It recognizes the child as a strong, capable and resilient person; rich with wonder and curiosity. Reggio Emilia is a child-led, hands on based approach. Reggio strives to give children endless ways to express themselves because they are active learners. In the Reggio approach, children are viewed as born researchers, and they are trying to answer the questions of life. The core values and principles of the Reggio Emilia approach aim to assist children in extending their curiosity and in understanding their world. In Reggio Emilia, both teachers and parents have important roles in children's growth. Teachers are not considered baby-sitters, but rather they are seen as learners and researchers along with the children. They frame engaging activities designed to stimulate children's curiosity and promote learning.

While Reggio Emilia is child centered and child led, the children at Kodomo are still at the beginning their learning journey. So we will show them many doors that they can choose to open. We will support whichever doors they pick, and empower their exploration by providing materials and a space to use or experiment with them.

Our goal is to make learning fun and interactive so the children will become socially capable, and look forward to learning throughout their lives.
