About the business
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with 20 years of teaching experience in elementary, middle and high school. the last 7 years I have dedicated myself to full-time tutoring.
Originally, I worked in conjunction with a cognitive psychologist offering educational services to students and adults with attention, stress, anxiety, and other documented learning challenges. After a name and ownership change, JCW tutoring was founded.
I still specialize in students with IEP and 504 plans as well as mainstream students. Our sessions include concept review and remediation as well as completing and understanding current academic coursework. Test anxiety, study skills, and organization are also addressed.
Test preparation:
I provide preparation for the FSA, SAT, ACT, and ITBS. These sessions include concept review, practice testing, and test strategies to enable the student to increase their scores. Many of my clients have gained acceptance around the state at colleges such as UCF, FGCU, FSU, and the University of Tampa. I also work with students to perfect skills for the college placement tests.
Academic Tutoring:
I work with students of all ages, Preschool through Adult on a variety of subjects. My specialty is Algebra, Language Arts, Literature, and Writing. I also tutor all subjects in Elementary and Middle Schools and all but the highest levels of Math and Science.
Academic Coaching:
Sometimes our clients understand their schoolwork but are having a hard time with the workload or with organization. Sometimes clients are working through an online course. These students need a coach to give them strategies to get work done and turned in on time. They also may need assistance with difficult concepts and assignments. This is a service I have been providing since our founding. I understand the challenges for students in these new educational platforms.
My clients, their parents, teachers, and guidance counselors work together to assist in creating sessions that move our clients forward with success and increased confidence.
