Holy Cross Preschool

Holy Cross Preschool has been providing 2, 3 and 4 year olds a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment for over 40 years! Holy Cross Preschool allows children to express themselves through language, creativity, and physical activity by providing an environment that is challenging and fun. Our purpose is to provide a basic educational program with small class sizes so the child can receive one on one instruction time within the group setting. We offer a hands on learning experience with a variety of developmentally appropriate educational experiences for all students. Our two year old class runs from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and the 3 and 4 year old class runs from 8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Multiple daily options are available indluding 1, 2 and 3 day a week classes. We offer early arrival at 8:00 a.m. every day for an additional $15 per day. We also offer late pick up until 12:30 for an additional $15 per day. Each class has one teacher and one assistant.

Our 2's program - For most of our 2 year olds this will be their first group experience away from their parents. With this in mind most of our efforts in this program will be to help the child function independently of their parents. Toddlers who need help with their potty training are welcome. We introduce concepts including colors, shapes and numbers, following directions and routines and learning through senses, socialization and active play.

Our 3's program - Since this may be a 3 year olds first group experience, emphasis is developing social skills and helping children to develop a good self-image in a peer group setting. We work on sorting, matching, classifying, visual discrimination, sequencing, opposites, patterning, rhyming, graphing, number, shape and color recognition, counting and ordering sets. Skills are taught through play, songs, poems, books and manipulatives, individual and group activities and teacher directed lessons and projects. Our 3's learn many social skills including following directions and routines, expanding attention spans, learning to transition between activities, interacting comfortably with peers and adults, respecting the rights of others, taking turns, recognizing feelings of others and growing independence in conflict resolution.

Our 4's Program - The 4's program is aimed at developing good self-concept. The curriculum nurtures the child's spiritual growth through bible stories, songs and chapel services. Group dynamics and problem solving are emphasized as we nurture the child's growth and development in preparation for his/her formal education in an elementary school setting. Teachers focus on pre-reading skills, writing, math and science. We work on identifying and writing letters and numbers, beginning sounds, identifying sight words, rhyming, sorting and graphing.

Throughout the year Holy Cross offers many unique experiences both in and outside the classroom. Our 3's and 4's classes attend field trips to a farm in the fall and explore nearby streams, meadows and woods in the spring as well as attend Arts on Stage performances at Goucher College. All students have the opportunity to attend special in house field trips from the Maryland Zoo, Annapolis Maritime Museum, local firefighters and Soccer Shots. Other activities include holiday parties, including a Christmas Program, a Thanksgiving Feast, Easter Egg Hunts, Mother's Day Tea, Donuts for Dad and Grandparent's Day. We offer family fun events including our Back to School Picnic, Holiday Sip & Shop, Paint Night, our huge Spring Fair at the end of the year and playground picnics throughout the year.

Tuition rates depend on the age of the child and number of days a week a child will attend school.
