Hickory House Kids

Of course we're biased but we believe that the smaller scale and intimacy of a family home daycare and preschool offers the warm and gentle "home away from home" atmosphere that young kids, especially infants, need in order to really thrive. While we are home based, don't let that fool you -- we do not sit around in a cramped portion of the house and watch tv all day. Our kiddos are active, healthy and constantly given age appropriate opportunities to engage in some type of learning or skill development that is disguised as play. We have a beautiful basement suite of 1,500 sqft of indoor space dedicated solely to care, fun and learning for the children.


We also take full advantage of the 3 acres of land surrounding our home, introducing children of all ages to the miracles and wonder of the great outdoors through play, exploration and learning. Half of our outdoor space is completely enclosed for the exclusive use of the kids. The other half is separately enclosed and houses a variety of small, docile, hand-raised from birth, farm animals such as Nigerian Dwarf milking goats and a flock of very friendly egg laying hens. We regularly take the kids to "visit" the farm animals, collect fresh eggs and dig and plant in the garden.


I have two girls of my own who are 4 and 2.5 years old. I am a former full time working mother who used to commute to Baltimore every day. I left my position at the end of 2014 to be able to spend more time with my girls. My former live-in nanny works full time with me in our daycare. We consider our daycare to be a ministry to children of working parents and especially their mothers (no offense, dads!) whose hearts are often conflicted about leaving their precious little ones in someone else's care.


I understand that choosing care for an infant is a difficult decision. I would really like the opportunity to show you our space and share more about what makes us unique and how that might benefit your little one and your family. We just received our license a few weeks ago and we currently have only 2 openings for infants. Our total capacity is limited to only eight children. Our small size allows us to provide parent-quality attentiveness and comfort especially for the littlest ones in our care.
