About the business
Helm Tutors is an online and in person tutoring service provider. Helm was founded by four experts in education, with more than 40 years of combined experience in classroom teaching and private tutoring.
At Helm, we believe in pairing the best tutors with students of all levels and backgrounds. First and foremost, we strive for significant improvements in student performance. That is the bottom line. We are confident that our service will match or exceed what the competition offers. More importantly, we believe we can get you better test results than our competition and we have a proven track record in doing just that.
We work exclusively with tutors that have an incredible command of the subjects they teach and have proven results in classroom instruction and private tutoring. We work with tutors that love teaching, easily connect with teenagers, and always maintain professionalism and high standards. Most importantly, we are solutions-oriented in everything we do and we make our clients' priority our priority. The satisfaction of our clients is the key to our growth and our most valued objective.
While each tutoring program differs greatly from student to student, we generally following the following guidelines in preparing all of our students for standardized exams.
Diagnostic Exams
Every test preparation program begins with a diagnostic exam(s). The diagnostic exam(s) allow us to assess the student's strengths and areas of growth. After a tutor and a student go over the diagnostic exam(s), it is fill in the gaps time!
Fill In The Gaps
During this phase (after the first two or three sessions), the tutor will teach the student the topics in his/her areas of growth based on the results from the diagnostic exam(s). There are exceptions to this. Sometimes, we get students who do very well on our diagnostic exams and subsequently do not need a lot of gaps to be filled if any. In these cases, we skip to the next step.
Practice Tests And More Practice Tests
One of the many great things we offer are great targeted practice exams including a lot of official previously given (real) exams. Since we want our students to benefit from these great resources, we drill practice tests. In this phase, a weekly program for the student is to take a practice test (track improvement), go over the exam and go over strategies. This process repeats often until a student has seen at least 7 practice exams for a given test.
