Gadugi Daycare is run and owned by a retired teacher with a Master of Arts degree in teaching. She is also a former group home houseparent, and a teacher at Kindercare in the Midwest. Additionally, the owner and provider is a member of the CherokeeIndian Nation.The program is modeled after preschools, and emphasizes school readiness. The word - gadugi - is a Cherokee word, and as such, portrays the daycare's emphasis on diversity and honoring others, no matter what their background. The discipline model emphasizes conflict resolution and restorative justice techniques expounded by Howard E. Ford (responsible thinking process). It teaches children the importance of relationships with their peers, and shows them how to forgive/make amends, reconcile, and move forward. The daycare serves breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. Every effort is made to serve nutritious, tasty, meals made 'from scratch', with preservatives, artificial flavorings and colorings, and high fructose corn syrup avoided. no microwaves are used. Breakfasts are served hot (with the exception of cold cereal served a few times a month), as are lunches.
