About the business
This is a once a week social group for high functioning students on the autism spectrum. My name is Patrick and I have been teaching high school students with autism for the last six years. In addition, an educational consultant that helps high functioning students match with the right college will be helping with the program. Five topics will be introduced and newly acquired skills will be practiced in the community. A list of the topics and strategies is below. Please contact me with any questions.
Social Skills group topics
1) Maintaining a conversation
2) Talking to girls
3) Advocating for wants and needs
4) Asking questions essential for success (Where is the library? What time is the writing center open?, etc)
5) Dealing with law enforcement
Each skill would be taught by
1) Introducing the skill (powerpoint, social stories)
2) Explaining the importance of the skill
3) Explaining the expected and unexpected behaviors involved
4) Modeling the skill
5) Recorded guided practice (if agreed upon)
6) Independent practice
