Children are individuals, each having something unique that sets them apart, each having strengths and weaknesses, I believe as a teacher it is my responsibility to help each child discover their gifts, to encourage and strengthen their abilities and help them to overcome their weaknesses. It has been my privilege to assist parents in raising their children. I have been blessed with staying in touch with many of my students over the years watching them grow into kind, intelligent young men and women.
I offer a multi-age learning environment where children can explore and experience many activities to stimulate their curiosity. Children are encouraged to try new things and to make new friends. The lessons children learn in their early years affect them the rest of their lives. I have seen children form relationships that have lasted right through college.
Children learn a lot through play and exploration, I offer many free play experiences where different toys and manipulatives are put out for them to experience. I use mostly open ended toys such as blocks, Legos, magnets, art supplies, play dough to name a few. I spend time watching and asking questions that help them to think and expand on their play. We spend time reading stories, listening to music and dancing. We also have circle time and time for academics when the children are developmentally ready. I spend time with groups and individuals to assure that they are prepared for kindergarten. Outside play is part of everyday, where the children can run and yell and just have fun. Swings, sand, trees, balls, balance beam, slides, tires and nature itself are their for the children's enjoyment and education.
Sharing, good manners, and considering other people are concepts that are taught and stressed daily. Positive examples of ways to deal with stress and not getting what one wants when they want it are challenges they face every day. Learning to express their needs and desires in a beneficial way is taught and encouraged.
Our preschool program encourages the children to be independent, kind, gentle and caring individuals who have a love for life and learning. My desire is that the children in my care would always feel loved and important. They should always feel safe to try new things and even when they fail, know that we will work together to achieve their goals.
