Camp Cavell Conservancy

Camp Cavell Conservancy is a unique place where lifelong friendships form spanning all cultural, ethnic and social lines. It fosters the idea that individuals from diverse backgrounds can celebrate similarities, while learning to appreciate differences. Camp Cavell Conservancy provides an opportunity for people of many different experiences to come together, share, grow, and develop a better understanding of one another, themselves and their environment. Camp Cavell Conservancy builds a strong, inclusive community of youth, adults and families from all backgrounds and abilities. Educational, accessible and transformative opportunities cultivate personal growth and stewardship of our distinct natural environment on Lake Huron. We offer day and overnight camps, women's/senior/family programming, and host community groups and schools.

Brief History: Camp Cavell Conservancy is a non-profit organization located about two hours north of Detroit. It is a three season camp which has served children in the Metropolitan Detroit Community for over 95 years as a YWCA camp. Unfortunately, four years ago the YWCA said goodbye to their Lexington, Michigan location. A few passionate, hardworking individuals saved camp and turned it into Camp Cavell Conservancy! We work with a unique mix of children and adults from very different economic and social backgrounds. A large number of the children we serve are from economically depressed areas, have a disability or are "at risk". For example, we have found a special place in the hearts of foster children, friends with Muscular Dystrophy and children from our local community. We feel these groups of children need to be exposed to new challenges and growth opportunities in the great outdoors.
