Brooklyn Tutoring focuses on two things: Deep understanding of the material, as well as maximizing your grade or test score. Most tutors focus on the former, but fail to deliver on the latter. After spending many years in college getting a doctorate and multiple masters degrees, we understand that grades and test scores are equally as important as deep learning. Another thing that sets us apart is our method of tutoring. Most tutors spoon feed their students and do a large portion of the work themselves because it's easier. We employ strategies like "answering a question by posing a simpler question" or "answering a question with analogy" to coax the student to answer their own questions. This, along with asking the student to apply new learning in different ways, and explaining our explanations back to us, help the student to teach themselves, which is exactly how long-term deep understanding occurs. Students can expect individualized, focused attention. This includes practice problems as well as homework assistance between tutoring sessions, which is largely unheard of. Tutoring sessions can be run via Zoom, Skype, or in-person. The main tutor, Peter, has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, masters degrees in mathematics and physics, and an associate degree in electrical engineering. He was a published working scientist / researcher before becoming a college professor, but eventually switching careers to become a Wall Street quantitative analyst.
