Boomlet Family Child Care

We are a small family child care home in the Maxwell Park neighborhood of Oakland, CA. We take a small number of kids (maximum 6 under 5, plus up to 2 school age) and take pride in nurturing and caring for each one individually.

Our Philosophies:
-Children learn through play. Research consistently shows that children under the age of 7 learn by playing. We provide lots of opportunities to facilitate play, including imaginary play, sensory play, independent play, and social play.
-Children, especially in an urban environment, have a deficit of experience in the outdoors. We spend as much waking time outside as possible in our backyard. In addition to lots of outdoor play options, we have a worm bin, and small garden that the kids can participate in helping with or just dig in the dirt!
-Children should learn independent skills within their abilities. We follow a montessori-inspired approach to helping kids learn independent skills by teaching them to get their own food, put on their own jackets and shoes, and clean up after themselves.
-Children should eat healthy, fresh food and learn to love eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We believe in limiting processed foods and sweetened beverages. Any food we provide meets this criteria, including organic as much as possible. We encourage parents to follow these guidelines as well when providing food for their children.
-We love art! We try to find the beauty and art in everything around us and participate in as many art activities as we can.
-Children s growth should be enriched with learning language. We hire bilingual teachers to speak to our children in languages besides English.

I have a Master's degree in communication and 10+ years in teaching and working in the tech industry. I am a stay-at-home mom now and believe in nurturing kids in a place that feels relaxing and homey, but also fun and exciting, that explores kids natural curiosity and gives them an opportunity to grow and explore on their own timing.
