About

If you have ever been pregnant, you've probably been told tons on stories about pregnancy and childbirth; the good, the bad, and mostly the ugly! Maybe you were told heartburn during pregnancy means you'll have a baby with lots of hair? Or maybe you were told "walk, walk, walk, walk that baby down" to insure a shorter labor?

Despite how bizarre these beliefs may be, there is evidence-based research that proves many to be a fact! Research has shown that women benefit from the presence of a person during labor and childbirth. A Cochrane review published in 2013, found that labors with continuous presence of a Doula, laboring mothers experience:

* Shorter Labors
* Reduced use of Pitocin
* Decreased rate of interventions during labor
* Much lower Cesarean (C-Section) rate
* Less need for Pain medications & Less request for Epidural
* Higher changes of a spontaneous vaginal birth

Women also reported a more positive child birth experience. Doulas use evidence-based practices that reduce stress and anxiety during labor. Doulas are an essential member of the birthing team without interfering with medical staff or the birthing partner.
