Aunt Jeni's

Let me introduce you to Aunt Jeni, my Mom. Jeni is 53 years old, she has taken care of children as long as I can remember. She didn't have an in-home daycare just a place where friends and family felt their children would be looked after and loved. Aunt Jeni's House was always exciting and fun. Full of books, paint, science experiments like homemade clay, music, cooking and Fun! Fun! Fun!!!! Growing up with so many kids in the house made me very interested in early childhood behavior and education. I am three years into getting my Bachelor's degree in early childhood education/development. My name is Shan and I am 23 years old. My Mom and I are opening an In-Home Daycare. Our belief is that children learn very quickly in these formative years before kindergarten. A love for learning can be instilled in a person through creative game play. We spend our day using our imaginations camping in the tent, fishing in the pond, appreciating music, reading and learning about the world around us. Our class pet in a Guinea Pig named "Pig". We all take turns being responsible for various parts of our class. We learn to solve problems with words and kindness. The time out chair or other forms of correction are kept to a minimum; children are spoken to with respect. But that doesn't mean everyone goes wild, Aunt Jeni and I expect the children to behave and act respectful to us and to each other, This expectation curtails most conflicts, the children are listened to which creates less stress for them. Two caregivers make for a lot of FUN!!!! The snacks are healthy and nutritious; many are organic because Aunt Jeni loves good food!! Sometimes the kiddos make their own snacks (cooking is chemistry)!!! We support breast feeding mothers, cloth diapers and even teach infant sigh language which helps them communicate easier with their families.
