My story is not unlike yours. A few years ago, my father and step-mother decided to sell their house and move into an assisted living facility. They are both in their 80's. It didn't take long for me to realize that the information I was getting from my parents about their medical care was both incomplete and in most cases, inaccurate.

In order to fully understand their conditions and the instructions they received from their doctors, I began attending their appointments so I could hear first-hand from their doctors how they were doing and what they needed to do to take care of themselves. It was eye-opening.

As a Registered Nurse, I have spent over 30 years listening to doctors speak with patients. Most doctors are very supportive with their elderly patients. But they are sometimes unaware of the confusion they create. They regularly use terms that can't be understood because of their patients' lack of medical knowledge.

It occurred to me that if this issue exists in my family, and I live in the same city as my parents, how do family members that are out of the area deal with this very real problem? So I decided to create Appointment Nurses.
