I have over 30 years of experience in working with the elderly. Now that I am a retired registered nurse (55 years old), I am turning my 3 bedroom home into a personal care home. I will only take in two women patients. Each will have their own private room (furnished or unfurnished) and share one bathroom. My home is recently remodeled and has new appliances, new floors, new furnishings, safety bars and ramps. Each woman can decorate their room as they please or that can be provided for them.
They must beambulatory or able to maneuver their own assisted device and must not be home bound. We will be going on outings to the movies, mall, beauty salon, senior citizen centers, etc. My belief is that it is very important to keep active both physically and mentally. Patients must be able to take care of their own bathroom needs.
I worked with geriatric patients most of my nursing career. I find them fascinating to be around. Unfortunately our society doesn't give them the honor and respect they deserve, but I do. I enjoy sitting and listening to their stories and wisdom. Families are welcome to drop in at any time for visits.
