About the business
We make sure homes are safe for seniors by identifying hazards AND taking appropriate action to eliminate the risk.
Home healthcare is wonderful, but if the senior lives in a home that isn't safe, it is only a matter of time before accident and injury force institutional care.
Safety assessments are our specialty, but without the capacity to take corrective action, the information collected is nothing more than survey data. We make homes safer, and we offer our expertise on a scheduled basis because the challenge of home safety is not static.
As we get older, most people are intent about aging-in-place, enjoying the comforts of their own home, and delaying the eventual transition to a care facility for as long as they can. The independence of living at home, unfortunately, is jeopardized by predictable accidents, like falling, frequently result in a debilitating injury, horrible pain, expensive hospital costs, strenuous rehab, and sometimes worse.
The problem is seniors who are still relatively active, lucid, and spry, tend to ignore the possibility that they could be a victim of an in-home accident. Often times it is only the occurrence of an accident that forces seniors to admit they aren't as bullet-proof as they once thought.
Family members tend to be more realistic about the need to accident-proof a parent s home. A caring and candid conversation about the likelihood of a fall (one in three seniors over the age of 65 will take a fall this year), can demonstrate an offspring s concern about the situation by arranging an in-home safety audit, and immediately following through with remedial action.
Accident prevention is not difficult. Its a matter of expertly identifying the hazards that lead to the circumstances that could cause an accident. Falls, for example, are highly preventable; they typically occur because of a sudden and startling loss of balance; we could overcome the tendency to fall if we were somewhat aware and prepared for their eventuality by removing the threat.
An experienced eye and a healthy cynicism is needed to detect circumstances that can violate the seemingly safe home of a parent. We pride ourselves in knowing how to make any senior home "accident proof."
